July is a very special month. In it we celebrate one of the most powerful events in the history of the U.S.A. This special holiday that takes place on the fourth of July.

On this day we commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. July 4, 1776 marks the day that we as a nation declared independence from The Kingdom of Great Britain.

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.

After voting for independence, congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision which had been prepared by a committee of five with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised this Declaration, finally approving it on July 4th.

Interestingly enough the actual declaration was signed by most delegates on August 2, 1776. Another interesting thing about this is that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, who were the only two signers to become President both died on the same day — July 4, 1826— which marked the 50th Anniversary of America’s independence.

As great of an event as this is for The U.S.A. it is important for us to remember that true freedom can only come from the One and only God who declared it through His own precious Son Jesus Christ.

As much as our nation needed our freedom from Great Britain the more important freedom for us is that which we can receive because of what Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross.

Signing the papers on whatever day they were signed was very important, but more important was the day that freedom was declared. It is said that Thomas Jefferson and John Adams in his elderly years came to believe that they and the other delegates had actually signed the document on the 4th of July, the day it was declared.

The enemy (Satan) has caused many people, even God’s people to be bound. He through his underhanded and conniving ways has blinded the eyes of many to think they are free when in actuality they are in real bondage.

The Bible says in John 8:36, “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” 1 Timothy 2:6 “He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.“ Paul goes on to say that he was chosen to be a preacher to declare this message of faith and truth.

Jesus has called us to freedom and it is time to declare our independence from the enemies control and walk in victory In Jesus’ Name!
